Handyman costs in Houston: prices from real local jobs

By

Owner & Operations Manager

I’m Chance O’Shel, owner of The Smart Fix Handyman. Our Houston team helps with home repairs and installs. I analyzed a sample of 13 local jobs to show what our prices included.

A price is much more useful when you know how the job was finished. Was the wall ready for paint, or was painting included? The examples below show the details I’d check before comparing quotes.

What did the Houston jobs cost?

Seven of the 13 jobs cost less than $500. The average price was $459.63, below the $486.25 median. Five lower-price jobs help explain that difference.

Does the price include paint and finish work?

Check the work listed in your quote. Two of these jobs left out matching paint, while the door job included a new finish.

Work completed Job price Detail to check in your quote
Closet support and nearby wall repair $572.00 The scope left out matching paint
Exterior wood door refinishing $683.75 Sanding, stain blending and a clear recoat were listed
Two drywall patches $689.00 The scope left out paint matching

The door refinish and the two wall patches cost just $5.25 apart. Yet the wall-repair record left out matching paint. Ask for a quote that spells out who supplies the paint and whether painting is included.

What if you have a whole repair list?

The most expensive job cost $1,143 and included siding repairs and exterior paint. The work also called for removing and reinstalling trim to match the paint color.

I’d use that total as a reference for a similar repair list. It can’t tell you a siding-only rate or a price per square foot. The notes lack the measured area needed to work out those rates.

For a wall repair, our drywall service page helps define the task. Include a wide photo as well as a close view of the damage. State whether the finished wall needs matching paint.
